Handbook of Indexing Techniques: excerpt by Linda K. Fetters
Linda K. Fetters Handbook of Indexing Techniques : A Guide for Beginning Indexers, 2nd ed. Corpus Cristi, TX: FimCo Books, 1999. p. 16. Reprinted with permission *** What the Index Includes
. . . A cookbook, for example, needs entries for the main ingredient of each recipe. In addition, it might include large headings for the various food groups such as breads, rice, vegetables, and meat. Depending on the type of cookbook, it might have entries for categories of foods like desserts, appetizers, main courses, and salads. Other topics could include the country of origin and recipe names. The worst cookbook indexes contain only recipe names!
